Sadly, it has been announced that Sir Roger Moore has died aged 89. The actor was most known for his role as James Bond, and was one of the most famous, and most popular 007s in its history. He appeared in a whopping seven Bond movies, including the hugely popular The Spy Who Loved Me and Live and Let Die. And he will be greatly missed.
His family confirmed the news on Twitter earlier this afternoon, reporting that he had passed away after a short battle with cancer. His children tweeted:
With the heaviest of hearts, we must share the awful news that our father, Sir Roger Moore, passed away today. We are all devastated.
Sir Roger Moore will always be remembered for the suave and seamless English gentleman that we knew and loved him as – and for his incredible career. Alongside his role in Bond, Moore also made a name for himself in the popular shows, The Persuaders and The Saint, and will be leaving behind both an amazing acting legacy and his humanitarian work which he so loved.
It’s said that Moore passed away in Switzerland, and his family will hold a private funeral for the star in Monaco. But what we do know is that he passed away with his family beside him.
The love with which he was surrounded in his final days was so great it cannot be quantified in words alone. Our thoughts must now turn to supporting Kristina [his wife] at this difficult time.
RIP to a true legend.
