If you haven’t been hiding under a rock for the past few days, you will have seen all of the pictures and videos of Will Smith bungee jumping off the (ridiculously) high Victoria Falls Road Bridge that lies above the Zambezi River – rather him than me. Smith filmed his descent on a GoPro camera that captured his 111-meter *gulp*dive.
But it’s not Will Smith’s bravery that’s got everyone talking..it’s his uncanny resemblance to his on-screen uncle. If you haven’t watched every single episode of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air before – well, firstly…why? And secondly, why?! But even if you haven’t you probably know who the main characters are (Will Smith, Alfonso Ribeiro, James Avery, etc.), you’ve probably seen the Carlton dance before (and probably even tried it out yourself), and probably still know the theme tune off by heart.
If you did watch The Fresh Prince of Bel Air during the ‘90s or are just catching up now on Netflix, you’ll know that the late James Avery played Will’s uptight uncle, Uncle Phil. With his balding head, cheeky smile and graying beard, Uncle Phil graced our screens and made us all laugh out loud during the six seasons of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Unfortunately, Avery died on 31st December 2013 after complications during open heart surgery, but he will always be remembered as one of the best characters – and most strict.
So what was it about Will Smith’s photo that has made the internet go crazy? Well, take a look for yourself….
I know. Uncanny. With the upside-down angling, the bald(ish) head and the gray beard, Smith looked exactly like James Avery. The picture has since broken the internet, and gone pretty viral. The reactions have even included fans begging for a reboot – with Will Smith playing Uncle Phil. Well, he’s certainly got the look already. Perhaps Will’s children, Jaden and Willow Smith will get in on the action; we’ll need a new Will and Hilary after all….
One Reddit user has even created a new theme tune for the proposed spin-off, and cleverly reworked it to fit the recent developments. Check it out:
“Now this is a story all about how my face looks fat from upside down; I’d like to take a minute just sit right there, I look like Uncle Phil when I fly through the air.” But that’s not all. In true internet fashion, memes have now exploded all across the world wide web, because who doesn’t love a good meme?
Will Smith has yet to comment on the picture, or the incredible reaction it has gained, so maybe he’s in talks with NBC about the spin-off already. We can only dream. Or maybe he’s still feeling dizzy after his 111-meter drop…
