In May, we reported on the heartbreaking announcement that Grease star and singing sensation, Olivia Newton-John had been diagnosed with her second bout of breast cancer, after initially being diagnosed in 1992.
A few months later, and Olivia has now provided an update for her devoted fans across the world, about her battle with the breast cancer which has now spread to her back. This week, the 68-year old posted on her Facebook account, releasing a statement about her mental and physical health. She writes,
I am really grateful for and touched by the worldwide outpouring of love and concern for me over the last few months. Thank you. I am feeling good and enjoying total support from my family, friends and my loyal fans. I am totally confident that my new journey will have a positive success story to inspire others!
I know we will find a cure for cancer in my lifetime!
The singer also brought her charity, the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre, to the attention of her fans, showing others that they are not alone.
Olivia Newton-John was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1993 and underwent chemotherapy, partial mastectomy, and a breast reconstruction. However, it was confirmed earlier this year that the cancer had returned after Newton-John had to postpone concert dates in both the US and Canada.
The back pain that initially caused her to postpone her first half of her concert tour, has turned out to be breast cancer that has metastasized to the sacrum. In addition to natural and wellness therapies, Olivia will complete a short course of photon therapy and is confident that she will be back later in the year, better than ever, to celebrate her shows.
On her recent Facebook post, Olivia confirmed this news.
I decided on my direction of therapies after consultation with my doctors and natural therapists and the medical team at my Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre in Melbourne, Australia.
As well as her own post, Olivia Newton-John’s daughter has recently spoken in a TV interview about her mother’s health.
She’s doing wonderful, her and I both think positive…she’s taken care of herself and she’s getting stronger every day.
We’re so happy for Olivia Newton-John and hope she continues to fight cancer!
