American rapper, producer and all-around G Thang, Dr Dre is giving back to his hometown in the most incredible way. The Compton, California local has recently donated a whopping $10 million to go towards the construction of a new performing arts center for his hometown’s Compton High School. The new arts center will offer a new 1,200 seat performance theater, as well as state of the art creative resources for its students.
In a statement, Dre said,
My goal is to provide kids with the kind of tools and learning they deserve. The performing arts center will be a place for young people to be creative in a way that will help further their education and positively define their future.
As well as offering his own money (and a lot of it), Dr Dre will also be a major help within the construction of the project, and will be involved in the effort to raise additional funds to complete the new center.
The young people of Compton and the Compton Unified School District Board of Education are overwhelmed by the rappers generosity. The vice chairman of the Board has thanked Dr Dre in their own statement.
Dr. Dre has stepped up and partnered with the school district to make this vision a reality. A true act of giving back to the community in a way that will directly impact the ever-resilient effort of our students to rise-up and succeed. A true act of leading the way and standing as an example to others of how never to forget where you came from.
The new build is set to be begin building in 2020, and will serve around 2,500 students at Compton High School.
